How to read Christie projector model names: L or D matrix, X, W, WU, HD, 4K resolution, brightness number in hundreds, with letter K or in thousands, version, series suffixes GS, HS, iS, JS, KS, RGB, named families Mirage, Boxer, Griffyn, Roadie, Crimson, Eclipse and the CP cinema series.

How to read models
Inspire DWU760A-iS
Projector family
The family name comes before the code: Inspire DWU760A-iS, Jazz DWU1800-JS, Mirage WU7K-M. Others stand alone: Boxer 4K30, Griffyn 4K50-RGB, Roadie 4K35, Crimson WU31, Captiva DWU500S, Sapphire 4K40-RGBH, Eclipse G3. These are touring, dome and simulator machines from a few to 50,000 lumens.
First letter · imaging chip
L3LCD, three liquid crystal panels: LX300, LW555, LWU530. DDLP, a Texas Instruments mirror chip: DXG1051-Q, DWX555-GS, DHD700-GS. Christie was the world’s first DLP licensee.
WU
Next letters · resolution
XXGA 1024×768 · W or WXWXGA 1280×800 · WUWUXGA 1920×1200 · HDFull HD 1920×1080 · 4K4096×2160.
Number · brightness, three systems
Hundreds: DWU630 → 6300, LWU420 → 4200. Letter K: HD20K → 20,000, HD35K → 35,000. Thousands: Boxer 4K30 → 30,000, Griffyn 4K50 → 50,000, D23WU-HS → 23,650. Note: Christie rates its laser models in ISO lumens, and the ANSI figure comes out lower — DHD850-GS is 7750 ISO but 6900 ANSI. Our example DWU760A-iS — 7150 ISO and only 6000 ANSI.
Digit or letter at the end · version or variant
A digit marks the generation: LWU501i from 2012 and LWU502 from 2016, both 5000 lumens, but the newer one has 10,000:1 contrast and HDBaseT. Same with Eclipse G2 and Eclipse G3. A letter is not always a generation: A in our example means TAA — the version for US government procurement. Its brightness and optics match DWU760-iS without the letter.
Suffix after the dash · series
A letter with S is the series name: GS and HS — laser phosphor up to 20,000 hours with no lamps or filters, iS — Inspire, JS — Jazz, KS — Korus. RGB — pure three-colour laser (Griffyn 4K50-RGB). No suffix after a dash means a lamp: LX400, LWU502, HD20K.
CP series · cinema hall, not for home
Cinema models follow their own scheme. The first digit is the hall format (2 → 2K 2048×1080, 4 → 4K 4096×2160), the second is the platform generation, the last two are brightness in thousands:
CP4455-RGB
cinema · 4K hall · Series 4 · up to 57,000 lm · pure laserCP2215 — 2K at 15,000 lumens, CP4455-RGB — 4K up to 57,000. Weight 40 to 100 kg, a dedicated power line and a DCI server. Nobody installs these at home.
Inspire DWU760A-iS = Inspire family · DLP · WUXGA · 7150 ISO / 6000 ANSI · TAA variant · iS series suffix

Christie (founded 1929, California) has been building cinema projectors for nearly a hundred years and belongs to Japan’s Ushio. It was the world’s first DLP licensee and ran the first digital cinema screening in 1999. Its machines light up halls, planetariums and building facades. The same optics and mechanics sit in the LWU and DWU models you can actually install at home.
