How to read Hitachi projector model names: the CP prefix for lamp models and LP for laser, the family letter A, D, E, T, C, the resolution letter X, W, WX, WU, SX, HD, the chassis-class number and the WN tail for Wi-Fi and wired networking, explained on the CP-AW252WN.

How to read model names
CP-AW252WN
Prefix · light source
CP marks a lamp projector, which is most of the catalogue (CP-X2541WN, CP-WU8460). LP means laser, a 2017–2019 range: LP-WU6600, LP-WU9100, LP-EU5002. One letter separates a unit with a consumable lamp from one without.
Family letter · form factor
It sits right after the hyphen. A — ultra short throw for classrooms (CP-A222WN, CP-AW252WN) · D — short throw on DLP (CP-D27WN, CP-DH300) · E — budget units for lecture rooms (CP-EX301N, CP-EW5001WN) · T — interactive (CP-TW2505, CP-TX301) · C — compact (CP-CX301WN). No family letter means a standard or installation model (CP-X3041WN, CP-WU8700).
Resolution letter
X — XGA 1024×768 (CP-X9110) · W or WX — WXGA 1280×800 (CP-AW252WN, CP-WX9210) · WU — WUXGA 1920×1200 (CP-WU9410) · SX — SXGA+ 1400×1050 (CP-SX8350) · HD — Full HD 1920×1080 (CP-HD9320).
The number · chassis class
The first digit gives the weight class: 2000–4000 — portables for a classroom or meeting room (CP-X2541WN, CP-WX4042WN) · 5000 — brighter fixed units (CP-WU5506) · 8000 and 9000 — installation models with interchangeable optics and lens shift (CP-WU8700, CP-WU9411). The number does not encode lumens.
The WN tail · networking
The tail letters are about networking, not about the image. W — a wireless Wi-Fi module · N — wired LAN with control, on/off scheduling and lamp-status e-mails through the PJMan application. Together WN means both (CP-X2541WN); N alone means cable only (CP-X4011N); no tail means no networking (CP-X2550). Note that in CP-AW252WN the letter W appears twice — the first is WXGA, the second is Wi-Fi. Position in the code matters more than the letter itself.
CP-AW252WN = Hitachi · lamp · ultra short throw · WXGA 1280×800 · Wi-Fi and LAN
